In 2020, I found an AI tool that could do part of my job faster than I could. My first reaction was to sign up for it.
That’s been my approach to AI ever since: not to panic, but to figure out what it does well, adopt it where it helps, and try to help others do the same.
I run Column, a B2B research and comms agency working with technology, digital health, and professional services companies. Over the past few years, AI has become embedded in how we work—drafting, research synthesis, workflow automation, competitive analysis. It handles the execution, and we handle the judgment. It has transformed how we work.
The small businesses I work with through this consultancy and other ventures are usually somewhere between curious and overwhelmed. They’ve heard the noise, tried a few tools, and aren’t sure what to do next. They don’t need another explainer about what AI can theoretically do. They need someone who’s integrated it into a working business to help them do the same.
I’ve led, executed, and supported projects at companies like AB InBev, P&G, Standard Bank, First National Bank, EssenceMediacom, PostHog, Y&R, and PelicanCorp—across AI-powered content strategy, social media advertising, brand campaigns, web development, UX design, and AI-crafted voice models and workflows.
